Garden Series

Over the last few months I have been creating work inspired by our garden. It isn't a big garden but as we are on a corner plot it is on three sides of the house. We are encouraging wildlife by not being too tidy in the beds and letting plants self seed including some weeds. We discovered cinnabar moth caterpillars on the gloriously yellow ragwort. The lawn has a wildflower garden in development and we were thrilled to see the yellow rattle planted two years ago coming into flower. A solitary cornflower was spotted!.

My paintings have grown in size as I aim to depict a sense of being immersed in foliage, appreciating all the colours and shapes of green. This year there have been more flowers with vivid colours. As the garden is on the wild side so is my painting with expressive marks and gestures. Like the garden there is abandon but also choices and enough control  to make the whole image satisfying and intentional.

The exciting result is I will be holding my second solo exhibition in the Upstairs and Mosaic Galleries at Dean Clough, Halifax form 27th Nov 2027-23rd Jan 2028. My working title is the 'garden series' .
