New Series

I am working on two series simultaneously at present so all my studio surfaces are covered at the moment. As I work with very fluid paint I need to work flat for much of the time, sometimes tipping the canvas or panel to allow the paint to flow in a particular direction. Landlines arose because I looked back at my paintings and picked something I liked about certain ones, this new series Rhythm came about when I received some new pre-prepared panels from Jackson's. The cradled wood panels are very smooth and when I apply very dilute paint they repel the paint in indiscriminate areas which sometimes form patterns. I used this random occurrence to create a painting titled Rhythm in Blue. I followed this with Rhythm in Yellow that you see here. This one is much bigger 76 x76 cm, on canvas, and I'm not sure whether it needs another layer to be complete. Returning to the wood panels, a group of Rhythm in Green paintings are coming along. You can see some of these under Paintings in the menu. Painting for me is a constant journey of discovery, experimenting with my materials to see what appears.

I am eagerly awaiting delivery of two books tomorrow, Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake and Sacred Nature by Karen Armstrong. It will be interesting to see whether these influence my work, the first one is a book that entranced and influenced some of my fellow students a few years ago.
