Split ends and other events

I have come to the end of a series of exhibitions I have been involved in. Participants of the Turps Correspondence Course 24/25 organised three exhibitions where the work was transported between venues in Wrexham, Standish in Wigan and finally Candid Arts Trust in London. Split, Split 2 and 3. I managed to attend the two northern shows and now have new art buddies which have come together as a collective to go forwards exhibiting together. I have found the course useful and enrolled again for next year starting in September. Having two monthly deadlines when I write a letter to my mentor and send images of my work in helps me reflect on my practice and decide what is important to me and developing my work. The objective feedback that arrives three weeks later is eagerly awaited and provides food for thought which is ongoing. The last one is imminent. My paintings have changed over the last 9 months, it is hard to know what influence my mentor has had as I am constantly experimenting. I am continuing to build a new body of work called Rhythm and Flow. Two of the small paintings were exhibited in the exhibition, Simulcast in Sheffield, which I was invited to participate in. The work was curated well and I have added a photo of 'my' wall here. However I am aiming to save future pieces for exhibitions coming up next year.

Exhibiting my work in a lovely house in Thornton, once frequented by the Bronte sisters, was another new experience I enjoyed, as part of Thornton Art Trail. We took down the many artworks already on the walls and placed our paintings there. The other artist was Hannah Ferreira-Allen and our paintings seemed to be complimentary and worked well in the high-ceilinged rooms. We had a very welcoming and delightful host and lots of lovely visitors.

Lastly I have rewritten my artist statement which you can read on its own page, see menu. I challenged myself to answer the question "Why do you paint?" It has been a hard question to get to the bottom of for some time now but I am happy with my conclusions for now.
